New Interview: Dem Getaway Boyz (Atlanta, GA)

Since Atlanta has become the new mecca of hip hop, rising stars have emerged at a fast pace.  Adding to the list of artists on the rise is new hip hop group, Dem Getaway Boyz.  The east Atlanta natives have taken the music scene by storm with their latest hit, “Get Up” produced by Kane Beats.  Dem Getaway Boyz talked with SheBloggin.com about their journey in this industry, how they got where they are, and how they feel about their new fame.

How did you come together as a group?
We all met and came together in high school. We started off just being friends doing music.  We sounded good together and went from there.  We’ve been together 5 years.
Being that you’re in Atlanta, what’s your opinion of the local music scene?
There are a lot of people following everyone else, in the whole Atlanta music scene period.  That’s why we’re in our own lane; we don’t want to be like everyone else.
With there being so many artists coming out of Atlanta sounding similar, how do you plan to stand out?
We do what’s real and not what’s hot.  Other artists do what’s in style and we do what we feel.
You’ve created a nice buzz for yourselves.  Give some examples of what you did to get yourselves noticed.
The internet was the main thing.  We used Soundclick, MySpace, etc., all of the social networking sites.  They’ve all been beneficial.  Also, we go to places that might not be that well known and perform. We like to touch all bases.
Who are some of your musical influences?
Jay-Z, NAS, Lil Wayne, Biggie, and Pac to name a few.
Have you collaborated with any artists or producers?
We’ve collaborated with Killa Mike, Mr. Bentley, and got more on the way. As far as producers, we’ve got tracks with Dre Day, Marvelous J, Mike Major, and our single is produced by Kane Beats.
Which artists are you hoping to collab with?
Nicki Minaj, Drake, Jay-Z, Lil Wayne.  Anybody really, we’re open to collab with anyone.
Your new single, “Get Up” has gained a lot of attention.  How did it come about?
We were in the studio when Kane produced it.  He sampled it from someone he knows in St. Louis.
Were there any DJs in particular that showed you a lot of love in helping push the single?
All of the Arsonist DJs, Hoodrich DJs, and Coaliton DJs.  The DJs around here have been showing us a lot of love. Also DJ Jay One, he’s been supporting us since day one.
What do you currently have out and what’s coming next?
We’re currently pushing our mixtape, “” and hopefully we’ll have the album out this year after the negotiations are finished with the labels.  It will be self-titled.
Any shoutouts?
Shout Warbucks music, Arsonist DJs, Hoodrich DJs, Dre Day beats, Kane Beats, In the Building Records, the whole ATL and everyone supporting us.

Introducing RDPRM Newest Client 3rd Flo

3rd FLO consist of 3 young men with energy and flavor who started making their mark like CRAZY in the new digital music industry where they sparked the YouTube trend that was to soon be followed and duplicated by many. Their short but seasoned history dates back to their freshmen days in college.

Chad Clendenin aka CAP born in Dayton, Ohio moved to Stone Mountain, Georgia at 2 months old. Growing up in Georgia he began rapping four years ago and successfully completed a 17 track CD with his first group Presidential Status. After his senior year he attended college at Albany State University and continued to pursue his music career while reuniting with childhood friend D-Ray and later introduced to group member D-Nell.

Delray Fuller aka D-Ray was born in Stone Mountain, Georgia and began rapping in high school. He formed a local group, “Terra Posse,” and began taking his music seriously. His distinctive voice and lyrics are a true representation of his southern roots. It’s “Music Forever” for this artist with a serious Deep South flava.

D-Nell aka Donnell Johnson, the third member of the group was born in Atlanta and always had a passion for music. Even as early as middle school he rapped among his peers in the cafeteria, displaying his talents. Growing up D-Nell "free styled" his raps never writing anything down. It wasn't until college that his group members encourage him to put his lyrics on paper.

After performing at a college talent show together 3rd FLO has been on the rise ever since. With "Do the Heizman" spiraling into a worldwide hit, 3rd FLO was signed to J Million Records, and Asylum Records. Their first CD was full of sizzling hot music that will establish that 3rd FLO is here to stay.

In spite of some early disappointments, as well as some early successes, 3rd FLO continues to remain humble, grounded, and dedicated to giving their fans great music, great performances, and thanks for their support. Their early accomplishments include the completion of their debut album, and two music videos. For the past 12 months 3rd FLO has been in the studio, performing, and developing their incredible talent, while still taking full advantage of the Internet to promote themselves and their music. To date 3rd FLO has registered over 3.1 million hits on “YouTube” and over 1.6 million plays on their MySpace page and counting.

Now they’re back...and the “Flo” is serious. They have been in the studio writing and producing their debut album on their new label “Never Surrender” set to drop later this year. Their first single, and a new smash hit “Runnin For It” is set to drop soon. 3rd Flo is ready to give their fans what they’ve been waiting for. They’ve recently signed to one of Atlanta’s new hot, relevant independent labels One In a Million Records.

Introducing RDPRM Newest Client "Gutta Squad"

Gutta Squad

Be it the abstract rhymes of multi-platinum duo Dre 3000 and Big Boi of Outkast or the gritty,
soul-drenched sound of Texas tag team Bun-B and the late Pimp C of UGK right down to the
pioneering kings of rock Run-DMC, two talented rappers have always given the rap world double
doses of lyrical heat.
Up next to add their names to the long list of two-man threats are Atlanta-based lifelong friends
Spanky and Solo of emerging rap group Gutta Squad. This dynamic duo has already had ATL
streets buzzing with two underground mixtapes. Riding off the runaway success of scorching
track “Trap Everything” with accompanying video and strip club single “Come On,” they are
readying for the release of their third mixtape Gutta Music Vol. 3 hosted by DJ Swamp Izzo of
HoodRich DJs.
“We’re more than just two people stuck together in a group,” Solo explains. “We know each other.
We grew up together. We got a bond like brothers.”
Both 24 years old, Spanky (Gerald Wallace) and Solo (Chris Watkins) first became acquainted at
age 10. They initially met in the Atlanta suburb of Austell in the Baby Land community. Although
they mutually had a deep love for music, they took different paths to their destination.
Spanky knew from an early age that he wanted a career in rap music. Since middle school, he had
been piecing together studio equipment and recording. He honed his skills rapping at clubs and
performing at local talent shows.
Solo, on the other hand, was making a name for himself freestyling and performing for
neighborhood friends. He didn’t take the music seriously until he wound up in youth detention
center for running with the wrong crowd.
“All I had was those four walls. To keep me going, I started writing down what was inside of me,”
says Solo. “I always had it in me but I didn’t have nothing to do but rap.”
As soon as his foot touched free ground, he linked back up with Spanky and hit the studio. Song
after song after song, they recorded constantly. Eventually, they decided to combine their abilities
and form a group. Soon after, they dropped their highly favored DJ Smooth-hosted debut mixtape
Gutta Music Vol. 1 in 2007. The mixtape made so much noise that distribution powerhouse
Universal Records showed interest. They flew to New York to negotiate their contract. But
unfortunately, the deal fell through during negations.
“The person who brought us in had a bad name for ripping folks off,” says Spanky. “So when we
got back to Atlanta, we had to start all the way back over.”
Not letting anything hold them back, they released their following mixtape Music Reincarnation
last year. Now readying for the release of their third mixtape No Excuses Vol. 1 hosted by DJ
Swamp Izzo of Hood Rich DJs, they are riding high off the hard-hitting track “Trap Everything”
and steamy strip club single “Come On.”
“Putting out music independently for yourself is a hard grind. But if you’re consistent, it’ll pan
out,” says Spanky. “You got to put your grind in and your money behind yourself. If you get it easy,
it’ll leave easily. I’d rather grind it out and stay around than to just put out one single and be gone
tomorrow.”

Introducing RDPRM Newest Client Five Da General

Five Da General, a product of New York, a natural leader and standout was always a kid that faced adversity and obstacles to living what mainstream America would consider a “normal” life, if there is such a thing these days. FIVE Da General is what you would call the total package in life as it relates to music. Standing 6 feet two inches tall with green eyes and a superstar presence, his music appeals to the ladies and the mainstream, as well as the streets and the underground alike. And with the five years of prison behind him, he is ready to embark on a new positive journey. Armed with real life experiences and not second hand tales, he has a real story and relates a story that demonstrates the fact that he has lived. He has star power and is one of the NICEST EMCEES (not rappers) lyric for lyric that you’ve ever heard. To FIVE Da General life translates to music and the music provides a means to transform his life. From an early age, FIVE Da General saw how life’s ills took its toll on the ones closest to him. From the heroine addiction his father was plagued with growing up, to his constant run-ins with neighborhood foes as well as the police, he learned how to speak his mind and protect his space from an early age. What you get from FIVE Da General is the core realism of a life told in the form of the underdog who personifies being blessed and cursed at the same time. FIVE Da General's music is as diverse as his experiences are. These very experiences allow him to make music with a wide range touching on light subjects like women, cars, and clothes to more personal subjects like prison, addiction, and everyday struggles. FIVE Da General can think back to various things growing up that went his way and gave him an opportunity to succeed, just as he can think back to what he describes as “GOD dealing him unshuffled cards”, where what seemed to be an open door later closed behind him to reveal itself as a box, where he was boxed in a space where it was Survival of the Fittest. This extends from his adolescent run-ins with the law to his latest lesson of trials, tribulations, betrayal, and conviction that earned him his name FIVE Da General.

Introducing RDPRM Newest Client Tight the Main Attraction

With a commanding presence that immediately attracts your attention and a distinctive sound that differentiates him from being comparable to some of today’s supposed competition, there’s no questioning why Tight has the underground and southern markets on lock. Having already serviced the south with a number of hits that are still receiving steady radio spins, approval from the streets, and have resulted in coveted headlining club performances, Atlanta’s own Tight is grinding a lot harder than most major artist.

With his first few singles “You Aint Fresh” and “Dump That,” becoming anthems for the clubs and the streets, his much anticipated follow up single “All Night” ft. Shawty Lo does nothing but secure Tight’s position as a hit making artist. Inspired by Hip-Hop Pioneers UGK, 2Pac, LL Cool J, and Eightball, he is an artist with more than just great music to give.
“I get my inspirations in a lot of different ways,” begins Tight as he lowers the sound of the beat pounding through the studio speakers. “Ideas come to me in the club, while I’m riding in the car, and sometimes when I’m just sitting still. It’s all about a vibe that you get but most often I write when I first wake up. That’s the best time since my mind is clear and not clouded with events that have happened already in the day.”
Born and bred in the city of Atlanta and a proud “Grady Baby,” Tight has always been the type to create his own footsteps instead of following those of others. Getting his start through his association with a number of friends who took part in the craft, he immediately and naturally took to music. Neither forced nor taught, this young emcees sound has evolved into becoming a recognized and welcomed addition the southern music scene. With mixtapes that always feature original beats and production, Tight has worked hard to craft his image and sound into an entity that speaks origination, which has already set him apart from a number of artist that beat jack and take concepts.
Having already headlined and opened for a number of major southern artist including T.I., Young Buck, Eight Ball and MJG, Lil Scrappy, and Crime Mob, Tight is on his way to becoming as big as some of the artist he has opened for. Focused on goals that include becoming a dominant fixture in the music industry, expanding his network of associates to include business’ opportunities besides entertainment, and positioning himself in a role that will allow him to open doors for other artist, Tight is a Mogul in the making and an artist with more than just music on his mind.
